HR1162 Advocacy from our PTA President, Andrea Casson-Galliano:  The legislation proposed by our state electorate directly impacts our children and the resources in our schools.  Some legislation can have more significant impact than redistricting – it can remove funds from all schools.  The House took up HR 1162 this week.  The proposed amendment would enable political appointees to override the decisions of local school boards and local voters and re-direct tax funds to any “special school” the state creates or designates.  It initially failed but will be brought up again and some who voted no have indicated that on the second vote, they will vote yes. Some Representatives told us they haven’t heard from very many constituents. That means PTA members didn’t pick up the phone and call their legislators.   Please call your legislator today and urge them to VOTE NO!  Your call can make a difference and your legislator needs to hear from you now.  A phone call is far more powerful than an email.  Click here to find the names and contact information of your representatives. http://www.congress.org/congressorg/officials/congress/

APS Redistricting - Renew Grady Cluster Petition:   Please read this petition, created by a cross-neighborhood grassroot group in support of the Grady Cluster, and sign it ASAP if you are in agreement - click here for Petition LINK.  Responses are permitted from EACH ADULT in your household.  In the Notes section, please include your neighborhood and the school your child currently attends

Accelerated Reader is at Inman! Accelerated Reader is a program which helps students build reading comprehension and vocabulary. Once a student finishes a book, they can take a short quiz. This year we have incentives. For each quiz a student passes, they will receive a ticket for a free Personal Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut (while supplies last). We will also award other prizes such as bracelets, bookmarks, fun pencils, and trophies as the student progresses towards the ultimate goal of 25 books and quizzes passed. The top students in each grade will receive trophies.

A Little Adds Up to a LOT at Inman! You can raise funds for our kids through the purcha

ses you already make with three buyer-reward programs where businesses send money back to Inman.  We hope you are participating in all of them,  but if not, here are 3 easy no-cost ways to help:

·         Publix Commitment Card: when you show your card at the Publix checkout and the cashier scans it, a portion of the total is automatically sent to Inman.  The Publix cards loop onto your key ring and are on the table in the front office.

·         Target Red Card: If you have Target's Red Card (their credit card) you can sign up on their web site for their education program and 1% of what you buy in stores or online is sent to the school.  It’s similar to Publix's program, but you don't have to remember to swipe the tag; its automatic when you use the credit card. If you are not already enrolled please visit:

https://sites.target.com/site/en/corporate/page.jsp?contentId=PRD03-005158

·         True Blue Schools: If you are already a Georgia Natural Gas Customer (or if you become one) you can enroll in True Blue Schools.  Once enrolled, when you pay your bill on time, $5 per month, per customer, is automatically sent to Inman. To enroll please visit:   http://trueblueschools.com/

Community Announcements:

Martial Arts at InmanOver the years, Cuong Nhu has refined its children’s curriculum to meet the needs of young learners. We combine exercise, education, and philosophy in ways that make learning fun – because fun and friendship are why kids want to participate.  Cuong Nhu students grow in maturity, self-discipline, and self-control while developing a non-defeatist attitude. Our instructors foster an environment of friendship and cooperation that emphasizes conflict avoidance along with defense against bullies and adult aggressors. Parents tell us about the improvements they see in their children’s fitness, attitudes, cooperation at home, and academic performance. Students feel empowered by their achievements while moving up through the ranks. You can sign up online at www.cnatl.org or fill out the Flyer and mail it in with a check.
