Proposed legislation relating to Education and Children: 

HB 19, SB 21, SB 79, and SB 57—Under these bills, kindergarten becomes compulsory and the mandatory age for school attendance rises to 17 from 16. 

HB 35—Would allow local boards of education to allow a school employee who has completed a training course to carry a gun in school.

HB 48—Requires all youth, parents, and coaches in athletic activities in all schools and community leagues to receive  concussion-related information annually.

HB 70—Would allow the State Board of Education to waive the requirement that students attend a full year of public school before they access a special education voucher.

HB 123 (“Parent Trigger Act”)—Allows parents to petition local board of education to allow school to become a charter school and allows teachers in a failing school to petition for removal of administration.

HB 162—Public schools must provide parents of rising 7th graders information on the human papilloma virus and HPV vaccine. 

HB 217—Mandates that CPR instruction be added to health and PE courses.

HB 244—creates new teacher evaluation system.

SB—12--would limit the liability of a governing authority of a school that enters into a recreational joint-use agreement with a public or private entity for use of athletic resources, such as sports fields and playgrounds. 

SB 68—Mandates 3 hours of instruction on the Founding Era for all students in grades 3-12, including daily recitation from one of the country’s founding documents.
